Information for Tax & Deputy Tax Collectors

General Reminders for Tax Collectors and Tax Deputy Collectors:

Listed are some helpful items to know prior to coming into the Clerk of Courts Office to file your bond/paperwork to be sworn in as Tax Collector/Deputy Tax Collector.

Tax Collectors:
1.  You must have bond, power of attorney, and two part duplicate with the amount of taxes municipality has collected.
2.   The bond must be 75% of the total amount of taxes collected.
3.   Two part duplicate must be signed by the Lancaster County Chief Clerk in Commissioner's Office and the secretary of the municipality where you will be the tax collector.
4.  The bond must be signed by the tax collector and must have a signature of an authorized representative of the surety company.  The bond must be notarized.
5.   If all paperwork is correct we will collect a filing fee of $21.50 and administer an oath swearing you in as Tax Collector.
6.   When completed, a copy of the bond will given to you.  You will go to the Lancaster County Treasurer's Office, located at 150 N. Queen Street, Lancaster.

Deputy Tax Collectors:
1.   You are required to have a form from the Tax Collector appointing you as Deputy Tax Collector.
2.   The form must be signed by the Tax Collector, the Lancaster County Chief Clerk in Commissioner's Office, the secretary of the municipality where you will be Deputy Tax Collector and a representative from the Insurance Company. 
3.   You must have a power of attorney from the insurance company.
4.   If all paperwork is correct we will collect a filing fee of $21.50 and administer an oath swearing you in as Deputy Tax Collector.
5.   When completed, a copy of the bond will be given to you.  You will go to the Lancaster County Treasurer's Office, located at 150 N. Queen Street, Lancaster.

Incomplete or inaccurate paperwork will result in a delay.

Our Office hours are Monday - Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.  No appointment is necessary, however, we ask that you arrive no later than 4:00 pm.  This will allow time if there should be any problems that need corrected & time to go to Treasurer's Office prior to 5:00 pm.
